Spring Fling 2010

There are 3 things that without fail I will cry out as it gets closer and closer to Spring Fling, the Artist's Open Studio Event in SW Scotland this weekend:

"I'm not going to have enough work finished in time!"

"What if nobody comes?"

"What if people think my work is rubbish/a joke/not worth looking at?"

This will be my 3rd year and so far, in reality, it's been a grand experience. And so far, none of the above has arisen (at least no one has been harshly critical to my face).

Most of my work is made in isolation, so it's always good to meet people who are interested in seeing what I do, and gauging reactions.

If you're in the area this weekend, do take the time to pop in and introduce yourself.

I'll have to wish you well from the States.

And for some reason, the piece you shared made me feel so peaceful...as if I was slipping into a blue ocean from the curve of the world.

Best wishes on your show!

Maggie, artists will always doubt their work, be they painters, sculptors, performers (Tell me!), craftspeople or whatever your particular may be. But we keep on doing our stuff. Why? 'cos it's what we do, and we have to do what we do! :¬)

I live in the Netherlands and I wish I could come and see all your work in person. Maybe you can show your work abroad sometime? And teach a workshop too?
I love your "curve" and every time I look at the photo I discover another detail to admire.

Came to see your work on Saturday, it's just beautiful. All us artists have doubts about our work-I know I do all the time! But if you keep going and believe in yourself-and the work, good things WILL happen :) Hope you had a brilliant Spring Fling. Jen

It is so courageous to put oneself out there! I wish I was near- this is the best I can do but I'll be there in spirit!

I've been a lurking fan of your work for a while. Your work with silk is inspiring - beautiful colours.
Anyhow, just thought I'd say hello.

Thank you everyone for your kind and supportive comments.

The weekend went really well, but it's taken pretty much the whole of june to start getting back to normal :)

I hope everything was hugely successful for you. Your sculpture is beautiful. I love curves. On people and in art.

I am just venturing into the world of "creating something and showing it" and can completely relate to your feelings here.
Wow I love that sculpture. It's so dynamic and powerful. The textures are intriguing and exciting. Your work is raw and unique. Beautiful stuff.
